The “PC Wait” Struggle: Lessons from GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2
On Reddit one member posted a hilarious meme where, for a very long time on the PC gamer couldn’t play a game because of poorly designed specifications. But the real reason for their being unable to play that game is that won’t even come to PC for quite some time!
So, how long will this wait be? We can’t set a firm timeline here but look at the timing used for GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 to identify Rockstar’s plans.
The time between the release date of the console GTA had in September 2013 and the PC launch date of April 2015 seemed to be an unfair wait a long 19 months. Whereas the wait time for Red Dead Redemption 2 was about a year between its launch in the console and PC.
If we take into account the latter as the more convenient point of view due to the recent times, that suggests PC gamers might wait until after Christmas 2027 before getting GTA VI.
Why PC Optimization Takes Longer
Whatever approach Rockstar Games chooses for the launch of GTA 6 (VI), it will be essential for them to finalize the console version prior to adapting it for PC. The PC platform presents a range of additional challenges, particularly concerning cheating and hacks in multiplayer modes, all of which must be resolved before the game’s release. Consequently, this indicates an extended waiting period for players who exclusively use PC, leaving them with few alternatives in the interim aside from purchasing a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X.
